I wasn't sure what the intended purpose was for this originally, but after some research, I believe it is an original 19th century brass blocking die marked "LUCEY", mounted on its original hardwood base. These heated shop stamps were used by tailoring, uniform making, and bookbinding shops to press a maker's mark onto the backside of cloth, leather or binding fabric during finishing. It measures approx 3.75" x 2" x 1". It does have some wear from use as shown in photos.
